Built out of frustration with the industry’s lack of transparency.

Our team of independent reviewers has worked in the admissions space for nearly a decade each. As such, they are well aware of the industry’s deceitful practices, ranging from sponsored content, affiliate-link reviews, or content created by someone with a financial stake in a firm.

The college consulting industry charges families anywhere from $1,000 to $60,000 with almost no independent accountability. There are no standardized disclosures, nor any third-party audits.

CCR was founded to fix that. We operate like a consumer research organization: we use structured rubrics, blind scoring, a documented methodology, and forbid ourselves from receiving any compensation from the firms that we evaluate. Our only obligation is to create an honest, helpful resource for families who need guidance on choosing the right firm for them.

"

Half of the rankings we found were either being paid for by the firms being ranked, or written by someone who financially benefitted from advertizing them."

Our Four Guiding Principles

01

No Payment

We have never, nor will we ever, accept money, free services, referral fees, or any other form of compensation from a firm we review. This is non-negotiable.

02

Independent Reviews

Each reviewer scores independently of each other, as well as independently from the firms. This ensures that all scores have as little outside influence as possible.

03

Full Transparency

We publish our full, updated methodology on our site every year. This includes publishing every rubric criterion and every category’s relative weight.

04

Annual Accountability

We re-evaluate firms every 12 months, so that past scores don’t influence current rankings more than they should. Firms can improve or fall based on new evidence.

Our Team of Independent Reviewers

Ranging from former college consultants to independent journalists, our independent reviewers have no ties to any of the firms they evaluate.

Our Independence Policies

We will always
  • Publish our full methodology publicly
  • Re-evaluate every firm annually
  • Disclose any conflict of interest immediately
  • Respond to factual corrections in writing
  • Offer firms the right of factual reply
We will never
  • Accept payment from any reviewed firm
  • Sell sponsored placements or "featured" rankings
  • Allow a firm to review or edit its own entry
  • Hire staff with active consulting affiliations
  • Remove a firm's listing upon their request

This charter is permanently published. We invite any reader, journalist, or firm to hold us accountable to it.
